I am a student in Gorizia, the capital of my Province (Province of Gorizia). Gorizia was one of the protagonist cities during the First World War, or rather the river that crosses, the Isonzo (Battle of the Isonzo). Now, it is a quiet city when you live without serious problems. It is a Europe's city, in fact it is close to Slovene (Gorica) and Austria (Görz). But it is also called Guriza, because of the Friulan dialect, one of the dialects of my region (Friuli Venezia Giulia). Gorizia also has a castle (Gorizia Castle). There are a few famous people born here. People like Petrosyan brothers (both kickboxers) or Edoardo Reja (Lazio's football coach). It isn't a great city, but it isn't bad. This is Gorizia.
Nice post. You are right, Gorizia is a small and quiet town now, but its history is quite important due to its position so close to a border. Do you know it was known as Austrian Nice when it was part of the Habsburg Empire?
RispondiEliminaYes, but Trieste was more important at the time, because of the port. Only in 1947, Gorizia has returned to be part of Italy, including Trieste.
